Southern Taurids 2028
A long, low-rate autumn stream of slow meteors, but a notable source of bright fireballs.
Maximum: November 5, 2028 Active: Sep 20 – Nov 20
Viewing from New York
The Southern Taurids reach maximum on November 5, 2028, with a peak rate of up to 7 meteors per hour under ideal dark skies (active Sep 20 – Nov 20). A bright 92%-lit Waning Gibbous is up through much of the peak night and will drown out all but the brightest meteors. A poor year. Rates stay elevated for several nights either side of the maximum, so you do not need to catch the exact peak night.
